About Us

We’ve reached that certain age and . . . we’re off!

We’re off to see the world and play in some of its most wonderful spots, and getting out there to enjoy the fruits of our life’s labors while we still can.

We expect to discover some very cool places, vistas, cultures and people.

We’re challenging ourselves on ski hills, golf courses, bike paths, hiking trails, fishing grounds and who knows what other righteous places. We’re following our noses into great cities, museums and concert halls.

And, we expect to get happily lost along the way, which will just add to the adventure and discoveries. This is our second childhood. And, this time, there’s no parental supervision. We dictate the rules, and we intend to have fun.

Thanks for joining us for the ride.

Mitch Kaplan (1948-2010)

Mitch Kaplan, the soul of this website, passed away in March 2010 after a year long battle against Myelodysplastic Syndrome. Details of his fight can be found on his blog:  Mitch’s Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS)What happens when you’re diagnosed with a disease you’ve never heard of .

It’s taken some time since Mitch’s death to regroup, find passwords and  figure out how to update the site. We are not back to where we were when Mitch called the shots, and probably never will be, but please bear with us as we push the mouse around,  poke at the keyboard and give it our best shot.

Mitch covered skiing, golf, adventure, family and 50-plus travel. He took up the pen to support his inexhaustible ski habit, and had been traveling with notebook, camera and laptop ever since.

He was the content editor for Kidznsnow.com, ski columnist for The Record of Hackensack, N.J., and the eastern editor for Skisnowboard.com.

Mitch’s work  appeared in Family Circle, Skiing, Westways, Snow Country and Continental Airlines Magazine, among others. He  authored seven books, most recently 52 Weekends in New Jersey, New Jersey: An Explorer’s Guide, and The Unofficial Guide to the Mid-Atlantic with Kids. He was  a member of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW), the American Society of Journalists & Authors (ASJA) and the North American Snowsports Journalists Assn. (NASJA).
